The History of District 22 (Etobicoke & York)

1968 Superannuated Teachers of Ontario (STO/ERO) was formed. This name was changed to Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO/ERO) in 1998.

1973  Districts were formed with their own executives. District 22 was composed of retired men and women teachers from the areas of York and Etobicoke, and included elementary, secondary and separate school teachers.

The first General meeting  was held in October 1973 with fifty retired teachers attending.

Constitution The District 22 Constitution was approved at the June 11, 1990 Annual Meeting. It was revised June 6, 2002.

Website The Web page was was established in the year 2000 by Irwin Kelly then taken over by Joel Nasimok.

Our newsletter "The Twenty-second Report" is published four times a year and is mailed to all District 22 members.

Day Tours Several tours to places of interest were organized originally throughout the year by Walter Wild then taken over by Irwin Kelly and Pamela Guy. They are very successful and well attended.

RTO/ERO Founding Member Award Harley Cross received the RTO/ERO Founding Member Award in 2000 at the Fall Senate.

Meetings An Annual General Meeting (a luncheon meeting) is held in May originally at The Old Mill in Etobicoke but now at different locations each year. Our Fall luncheon meeting is also held at the held at different locations each yearl.

A "To Hell With The Bell Breakfast" for new retirees was organised and held on September 8, 1993 by John Woszak and Mary Ruth McDonald. Forty-five teachers and guests attended this affair and because of its success has been held every year since then. In September, 2002 one hundred and one people attended. These are always held at the Canadianna Resturant in Six Points Plaza Membership By 2015 our membership swelled to about 2500.
